Denmark chooses VarioShieldPlus

29 January 2021 by Lead2Fix

After our lead tiles VarioShieldXL, now our innovative and easy to handle lead lined plaster panels VarioShieldPlus are once again on their way to Denmark. These panels have already been installed at Holbæk Sygehus in a new CT-scanner room and this load is on its way to be installed at Aleris-Hamlet Hospital in Søborg.

VarioShieldPlus are being produced for the Nordic market on Fermacell fibreboards by Lead2Fix. Fermacell Scandinavia has no radiation shielding boards in their product range, so they have made an agreement with Delektor Tech ApS to arrange for production of their fibreboards laminated with lead in various thicknesses.

Lead2Fix and Delektor Tech ApS started their cooperation last year in 2020, and Poul Erik is delighted with our efficiency, quick deliveries and competitive prices.

The VarioShieldPlus on Fermacell boards are being sold under the name “Fermacell VSP” in the Nordic countries, and the boards have also been installed in a few private clinics with dentists, veterinarians and chiropractors.

Thanks to Poul Erik Porse of Delektor Tech ApS – our dealer for the Nordic market – for this  good cooperation!

Spain also discovers the VarioShieldPlus panel!

2 November 2020 by Lead2Fix

A challenging development: our VarioShieldPlus panels have been prescribed in Spanish specifications for the building of a hospital. The first load arrived this week in Malaga … and the second is on his way. 1100 VarioShieldPlus panels with 2 mm lead and of course the self-adhesive lead strips … A good start of a hopefully long-term relationship with Grupo Metalcon.

Quickly building walls with high radiation protection

6 July 2020 by Lead2Fix

Supporting member Lead2Fix has recently bought a 5-axis machining centre with which it can process lead tiles in-house. In a single automated procedure, the machine can apply a V-shaped groove in lead tiles of different thicknesses.

The machine was a joint development of Lead2Fix and steel construction and machine manufacturer Van Nobelen Delft. The aim was to find a way of applying a perfectly interlocking groove around the edge of the lead tiles that was precise enough to obtain a radiation-proof construction. The result is the VarioShieldXL, a lead tile which allows walls with high radiation protection to be built quickly. These are already being used in the Prinses Máxima Centrum, the Gelre hospital in Apeldoorn and the Universitätsklinikum in Bonn. The wall system has been tested by APPLUS RTD. In previous collaborations, Van Nobelen Delft and Lead2Fix had already developed innovative machines for the automated gluing of lead onto plaster panels. Lead2Fix has acquired the 5-axis machining centre from Van Nobelen Delft in order to speed up its in-house production and supply of lead tiles (VarioShieldXL).

Prinses Máxima Centrum, Utrecht

20 February 2019 by Lead2Fix

The Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology is the only institute in the Netherlands to provide highly specialised care, research and education in the area of childhood cancer. All the top research comes together here. The Princess Máxima Center puts the child and family central to its work. That is why the experience of the child lies at the heart of the design of architectural firm LIAG.

The new building is located to the east of the University Medical Center Utrecht. An airbridge, 160 metres long and 5 metres wide, connects the two buildings, thereby providing quick and dry transport for patients from one hospital to the other. Very convenient, as the Princess Máxima Center uses the facilities of the UMC Utrecht, such as children’s ORs and intensive care.

For the construction of the Princess Máxima Center, Lead2Fix delivered VarioShield lead lined plaster panels and VarioShieldXL lead tiles. Muller Afbouw, responsible for all the MS walls, system ceilings and coves, installed these products to make the necessary rooms radiation proof. The department that works with radioactive isotopes was for example fitted with reinforced metal stud walls combined with VarioShieldXL of both 8 mm and 15 mm thickness.

This highly specialised hospital was opened on 5 June 2018.

Imaging Center VUmc, Amsterdam

20 February 2019 by Lead2Fix

The Imaging Center of the VUmc offers all activities related to medical imaging under one roof. On the first three floors, patients can visit the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine departments which use the latest imaging equipment (including MRI, CT, PET-CT, SPECT-CT, PET-MRI, bucky, ultrasound, transillumination and mammography). Isotopes are created in the basement, whilst the upper floors are used for research and building technology.

The design of the building naturally takes into account the large weight of the equipment and the strict safety requirements related to radiation, vibrations and magnetic fields. Lead2Fix has contributed to this by supplying VarioShieldPlus panels that have been fitted by Muller Afbouw.
